Search Kentucky DOC Releases

A Barren County state prisoner may be held at the county detention center while remaining under Kentucky Department of Corrections authority. To find someone released from the Kentucky DOC custody network, check the statewide offender record, the official dated release archive, and any supervision record. These sources answer different questions. A county-jail departure may be a transfer into state custody, while a Kentucky DOC release can be a discharge or a move to community supervision. Matching the name and DOC number across records is the safest route.

Barren County DOC Custody

No Kentucky state prison was confirmed inside Barren County. The state layer still matters because the Barren County Detention Center can house state prisoners. A person can remain in the same building while the legal authority over the confinement changes. The jail’s live list cannot explain that change by itself.

Kentucky DOC records cover sentenced people managed by the state. They do not cover every local misdemeanor case or every person briefly held before trial. Start by asking whether the person is a county detainee or a DOC prisoner. That distinction determines whether the jail release sheet or the state record supplies the better answer.

County release
Departure from the Barren jail’s custody, which may lead to the community or another custodian.
DOC discharge
Completion of the state custody event shown by Kentucky DOC.
Transfer
A move between custodians or facilities, not necessarily freedom.
Supervision
Community oversight after custody, including parole or another DOC form.

Search Barren DOC Records

Kentucky Offender Online Lookup, or KOOL, is the primary state offender search. Search by name or identifier, then compare the DOC number, physical details, conviction data, status, and location. The advanced search supports Offender Type, Supervision Status, County of Supervision, escape or abscond dates, and a Projected Release Date range.

  1. Search the person’s full name, then try a partial name if needed.
  2. Match the DOC number and identifying fields before relying on the result.
  3. Read status and location together. A location can identify a prison, county jail, or supervision office.
  4. Copy each date exactly as labeled. Do not turn eligibility or a proposed date into a completed release.
  5. After the event, compare the record with Daily Releases, VINE, or the maintained release sheet.

The KOOL agency page says updates are made daily and warns that data newer than 120 days may not be finalized. The official notice shown below explains why a very recent field should be checked against the event record.

A later correction can change what appears in a recent state record, so preserve the lookup date when documenting a result.

Barren Release Date Labels

KOOL exposes several dates that must stay separate. The Projected Release Date is an estimate used for searching. Expected Time To Serve is another calculation field. Minimum Expiration of Sentence Date may be labeled as a good-time release date. Maximum Expiration of Sentence Date marks a different endpoint. Parole Eligibility Date only states when consideration may begin.

FieldWhat it can establish
Projected Release DateA current estimate, not proof of departure
Minimum ExpirationThe displayed minimum sentence endpoint under the state calculation
Maximum ExpirationThe displayed maximum sentence endpoint
Parole Eligibility DateWhen parole consideration may occur
Proposed Release DateA date associated with a parole recommendation, not physical release

Sentence credits under KRS 197.045 can affect state calculations. Credits involve prior confinement, qualifying programs, conduct, and other rules. They can also be forfeited. No public reader should build a private calculator from the statute. DOC’s person-specific computation controls.

Daily Barren DOC Releases

The Kentucky DOC Daily Releases archive is the best completed-event bridge for a state-managed person. Its dated PDFs can show DOC number, name, Type of Release, Released From, and felony class. “Barren County Detention Center” can appear in the Released From column even though the building is a county jail.

That feature is locally important. A Daily Releases entry can preserve an exact outcome such as Discharged - Minimum Expiration, Shock Probation, or Mandatory Reentry Supervision. Copy the official wording. Mandatory reentry supervision is a statutory or DOC release form and should not be relabeled as Parole.

Scope limit: Daily Releases is not a general Barren booking-release feed. It covers DOC-managed events, so local jail releases still require the county record.

A dated PDF is also different from a rolling 24-hour list. Publication timing and report dates can differ. Search the date of interest and nearby dates, then confirm the actual event with the individual state record.

Confirm Barren DOC Release

A strong confirmation joins three records: the state offender record, the dated release entry, and any post-release supervision record. Kentucky VINE can add a custody-change alert. The court judgment supplies the sentence context. Each has a limited role.

SourceBest useLimit
KOOLStatus, location, dates, supervisionRecent data may not be final
Daily ReleasesCompleted DOC event and official release typeNot all county releases
VINERelease or transfer notificationNot a full historical archive
Court recordSentence, order, or dispositionAn order alone may not show departure time

If KOOL shows a Glasgow Office or Barren County supervision location, the person may be outside secure custody but still supervised. Use Post-Release Supervision to distinguish parole, probation, and discharge. An abscond label means an alleged loss of contact or noncompliance. It is not a release type.

Violent-Offender Release Limits

KRS 439.3401 imposes an 85-percent threshold on violent offenders within its defined scope. That rule does not apply to every Kentucky felony. The conviction, offense date, statutory definition, and applicable version of the law must be checked first. Covered life-sentence cases have separate language.

Parole eligibility is still not release. A monthly hearing notice can show a person, DOC number, location, eligibility month, indictment, conviction date, and offense. It proves scheduling, not approval. A favorable decision can remain subject to conditions and release planning. Confirm departure later through KOOL, Daily Releases, VINE, or a release record.

Where DOC Releases Go

A Kentucky DOC release can lead to parole, probation, shock probation, mandatory reentry supervision, another form of community oversight, or full sentence discharge. The Glasgow Probation and Parole satellite is the local verification point when KOOL identifies that office. A discharge ordinarily means the state sentence obligation reflected in the record has ended; it does not erase the conviction or court file.

A Barren County jail exit can instead begin DOC custody. “Released from the jail” then describes the county custodian’s event, not a community release. Ask for the destination or receiving agency on the county release sheet. Match that field to KOOL before describing where the person went.

Kentucky VINE can carry separate local-jail and DOC records for the same person. Register on both when both appear. The first may announce the Barren jail event, while the second follows the state custody trail. Preserve “Release,” “Transfer,” and “Escape” as distinct event labels. A transfer notice cannot establish community release.

Barren DOC Parole Decisions

The Kentucky Parole Board publishes month-based eligibility and hearing notices. A notice may list the person, DOC number, current location, parole-eligibility month, indictment, conviction date, and offense. It is a schedule, not proof that parole was granted. The Board conducts eligibility hearings weekly, publishes schedules monthly, and updates schedules on Monday mornings.

KOOL’s Parole Information table can later show Hearing Date, Hearing Action, Months Deferred, Next Parole Eligibility Date, and Proposed Release Date. Copy the actual action. “Parole Recommended” can carry a proposed date but does not establish departure. “Deferred” points to later review. “Serve Out” means custody continues. “Parole Revoked” means a prior community release was withdrawn.

For a Barren County state prisoner, preserve four stages: scheduled review, Board action, physical release, and supervision. The monthly notice supports only the first. A Board result supports the second. Daily Releases, KOOL, VINE, or the county release sheet can confirm the third. A Glasgow supervision location can support the fourth.

Barren DOC Record Requests

When the public lookup does not resolve the event, request a specific DOC release or discharge record rather than the entire inmate file. Kentucky inmate records receive confidentiality review under KRS 197.025 and 501 KAR 6:540. Identify the person and DOC number, state the date range, and name the field or document needed. If material is withheld, ask for the legal basis and an explanation of how it applies.

A county release sheet may still be needed when the state prisoner was housed in Barren County. The state record explains the DOC event, while the county sheet can preserve the physical departure time and receiving authority. Matching both avoids treating a change in legal custody as an undocumented gap.
